EPHRATA — The Gorillas girls track team brought home a third-place team finish from the 49th annual Ray Cross Invitational meet Saturday, March 29, at Ephrata High School.
The girls team scored 54 team points; Richland won the meet with 197 and Prosser was second with 80.
Meanwhile, the Davenport boys struggled to gain traction and tied for 17th place with teams from Moses Lake and Wilbur-Creston, all with 5 points each.
Richland won the boys title with 136 points, followed by Ephrata in second with 94 and Royal in third with 83.
In girls events, freshman Charlotte Soliday and junior Josie Wynecoop had a 2-3 finish in the 800-meter. Soliday finished in 2:33.93 and Wynecoop in 2:35.55, both school records for Davenport.
Wynecoop added another school record and a second-place finish to her day in the 1,600-meter, where she finished in 5:28.74, about 7 seconds behind the winner, junior Marit Nelson of Liberty Bell.
Meanwhile, junior Glenna Soliday was excelling in the hurdles, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.85 and taking second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.05 seconds. Both are school records.
Davenport girls also grabbed a bronze medal in the 4x200 relay.
Junior Faith Suttenfield, freshman Paige Van Buren, Charlotte Soliday and Glenna Soliday combined for a 1:54.25 finish, third only to Richland and Ephrata, both much larger schools.
Charlotte Soliday rounded out her day with a fifth-place finish in pole vault, clearing 7.0 feet.
In boys events, sophomore David Coriell finished fifth in the 200-meter with a time of 24.51.
No other Gorillas finished in the Top 6 in their respective events.
This Friday, April 4, the Gorilla boys and girls travel to Deer Park to compete in the Gleen Wolf Invitational.
The first event begins at 10:30 a.m. at Deer Park High School.
