Reardan girls take two from Davenport

DAVENPORT – After losing two lop-sided games to Northwest Christian on March 27, Reardan’s bats came alive against the Gorillas Saturday, March 29, winning both ends of a doubleheader 17-6 and 27-7.

In the first game, the Screaming Eagle benefited from Davenport’s inability to find home plate with its pitches. Seventeen Reardan players walked or were hit by pitches to keep the bases occupied. Reardan moved players from bag to bag with walks and singles. In the fourth inning Hadley Landreth and Kylynn Clouse each belted triples and in the fifth inning all nine players scored to seal the 17-6 win.

Mya Leibfried and Landreth scored four and three runs, respectively. Clouse, Lillie Whitman and Kira Hoff each scored two runs and Natalya Hahn, Olivia Wicks, Shyla Nortz and Tayen Zagorski each scored one.

Shyla Nortz pitched for Reardan and picked up the win.

In the second game Reardan’s first three batters, Hahn, Wicks and Landreth all scored to give the Screaming Eagles a 3-0 lead after one inning.

The Gorillas’ bats popped in the second inning. Faith Bell hit a triple and Scout Sewell and Kaydence Cain both hit doubles to drive in five runs. Hahn scored another run for Reardan in the bottom of the second inning, but Davenport went into the third leading 5-4.

McCall Knopp opened the third inning with a double and she and Sewell both scored to put the Gorillas up 7-4 heading into Reardan’s half of the third inning. Hadley and Whitman both scored for the Screaming Eagles to make the score 7-6 after three.

Neither team scored in the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wicks scored for the Screaming Eagles to tie the score at 7 apiece. In the sixth inning Wicks, Clouse, Hoff, Nortz and McKenna Brooks also scored to put Reardan ahead 12-7.

In the seventh inning the Screaming Eagles had seven hits, including doubles by Clouse and Nortz and tacked on 15 more runs to win the game 27-7.

Wicks scored five times for Reardan, followed by Hahn and Clouse who both scored four runs. Landreth and Whitman scored three runs each, and the rest of the players scored at least one run.

Nortz was the victorious pitcher, notching her second win of the day.

“Shyla Nortz pitched two strong games for us,” Reardan coach Anthony Wicks said. “Our defense was tough, and our unselfish play led to two big wins.”

With the win, Reardan improved to 3-4. The loss dropped Davenport to 0-5. The Screaming Eagles’ next home game is Tuesday, April 15, against Chewelah. Davenport will play Newport at home on Saturday, April 19.
