REARDAN - The Screaming Eagles baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to NE2B league leading Northwest Christian Saturday, April 5. The Crusaders won the games 4-1 and 19-5 to send Reardan to its third straight defeat.
In the first game, NWC scored three runs in the first inning and added another run in the third inning. Crusaders' pitcher Kaden Van Dyke held the Screaming Eagles without a hit through three innings.
In the fourth inning, Reardan's Hunter Flaa tattooed a pitch for a double that scored Brody Angell to make the score 4-1. Levi Collier was the only other player to get a hit off Van Dyke the rest of the game as NWC held on for the 4-1 win.
Van Dyke earned the win for the Crusaders by allowing only two hits and striking out 10 Reardan batters.
In defeat, Tysen Finch pitched a solid game for Reardan. He allowed only three hits and struck out seven batters. Reardan committed three errors compared to none for the Crusaders.
Errors also hurt Reardan in the second game. They committed four to NWC's one.
NWC led 10-0 after three innings and scored nine more runs on nine hits in the fourth inning to take a 19-0 lead.
Reardan finally found some offense in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Screaming Eagles scored five runs on four hits to make the final score 19-5.
Flaa hit a single and a double and drove in two of Reardan's five runs. Maveric Sobotta, Levi Collier and Nolan Vinson each had one hit.
Drew Bevin picked up the win for NWC. He limited Reardan to five hits and struck out six batters. NWC stole six bases and racked up 14 hits.
Jacob Bodeau took the loss for Reardan. He gave up 10 runs, on five hits and walked five batters.
With the two losses, Reardan's record is 4-3. Northwest Christian improved to 9-2.
The Screaming Eagles's next home game is April 15, at 4:30 p.m. against Chewelah.
