Doris Jayne, 10 year old Davenport girl was burned to death while sleeping in a shack on her father’s farm south of town. The girl was spending the weekend at the farm to keep house for her father and the farm hands.
A second test train passed through Odessa. New engine 2129 made the trip from Wilson Creek to Odessa in one hour and 2 minutes which was 18 minutes less than the old engine.

A pre-harvest inventory of warehouses in Davenport, Rocklyn, Mondovi and Omans has shown that there are some 30,000 less bushels stored at present than there were at the same time last year.
After opening for business last week the Odessa Veteran’s Memorial hospital has seen the births of 2 boys and its first surgery was completed. Dr. Joseph Kaye sucessfully removed the appendix of Max Totusek.

The Odessa town council is once again considering having property north of the city limits platted into streets, lots and alleys. Inquiries are being made to find someone to do the work and to determine the costs of the work.
Davenport’s Civic League is preparing for its 2 day rummage sale to benefit the summer swimming program for local youngsters. This sale has raised about $300 in years past.

A Wilbur Crop dusting pilot narrowly escaped death or serious injury last week after pulling off an emergency landing in a field south of Harrington just moments before his plane burst into flames.
The new Pioneer Plaza should be finished in time for this year’s Pioneer Days. According to coordinator Dean Anderson the Lion’s Club will be pouring concrete pads for park benches next week.

Gurbachan Singh, who disappeared 2 years ago after his sudden departure from the Davenport community and faces multiple theft and fraud for his unlawful operations of Davenport Food Mart, was recently arrested at the Port of Seattle Airport.
The 10th annual Friends of the Pool walk-a-thon was held recently and raised over $3,000. according to Susie Diefe, FOP President. 1,016 laps around the track at Finney Field were completed by participants.
