Museum honors volunteers

DAVENPORT - Volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to the Lincoln County Museum in 2024 were recognized for their outstanding service at the museum's annual volunteer luncheon, held on Monday, April 21, at 12 p.m. This marks the fourth year of the luncheon, which has become a tradition in the museum's 53-year history.

"It is about the volunteers more than anything else," said LaVon Stiles, outgoing museum director, who will be succeeded by Laura Harris on May 1.

The event honored those who contributed 50 or more hours of service, with some volunteers reaching the 100-hour milestone.

Volunteers recognized for their 50+ hours of service included Pam Brown, Joseph Abell, Rita Guhlke, Kirk Carlson, LaVon Stiles, Rollie Behrens, Donna Mathis, Tony Hein, Lynn Maurer, Steve Whiteside, Phyllis Luiten and Eileen Paulson.

Those honored for 100+ hours of service in the museum included Rollie Behrens, Kirk Carlson, Rita Guhlke, Tony Hein, John Stiles, LaVon Stiles and Steve Whiteside.

Members of the Vintage Harvest crew were also honored for their 100+ hours of volunteer service. The crew includes Brett Guhlke, Raven Morris, Jaime Morris, Gene Hein, Gene Stuckle, Randy Morris, Todd Guhlke and Jeff Holderby.

John Stiles, museum board president, emphasized the importance of the volunteer workforce, stating, "Without our volunteers, we could not be the organization we are. We would be stagnant, and it's the volunteers improving everything for the museum. They work year-round, especially in the winter with changing displays."

The museum operates with two groups of volunteers: one team works during the open season from May 1 to September 30, and another team works during the off-season from September 30 to May 1.

The museum is closed on Mondays and will open for the season on Wednesday, May 1, operating Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. through the end of September.

Several new exhibits are expected to be unveiled this season, and the museum will continue to offer its space for meetings and events by donation.

In addition to regular volunteer service, the museum continues to benefit from its annual Vintage Harvest fundraiser, which was started 25 years ago by Gene Stuckle and Crayton Guhlke.
